WATCH: Voices of Vaughn Elementary - How using AAC devices helps all students connect.

The Peninsula School District and the Special Education Parent Advisory Committee (SEPAC) are excited to share an inside look at our district's Special Education supports! In the video “Voices of Vaughn Elementary-How using AAC devices helps all students connect,”, you’ll hear from our passionate Team at Vaughn ES as they discuss our district’s inclusive philosophy and share one of the many supports available to help every student thrive. You’ll also learn about the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices, which play a critical role in supporting students with communication challenges. AAC devices, such as speech-generating tools or communication boards, empower students to express themselves, participate in classroom activities, and build social connections.

October is Disability Awareness Month, a time dedicated to promoting understanding, respect, and inclusion of individuals with disabilities. It’s an opportunity for our district to highlight the diverse strengths and talents of our students while reinforcing our commitment to an inclusive learning environment. By embracing each student's unique needs and abilities, we foster a culture of empathy and acceptance, ensuring that every student feels seen, heard, and valued. We invite you to watch the video to see how we are actively working toward a more inclusive school community for all.

This October, in honor of Disabilities Awareness Month, PSD and SEPAC are proud to highlight the stories of students with disabilities. We believe that sharing these experiences can help destigmatize disabilities, foster greater understanding, and celebrate the unique strengths of every student. We invite families to share their journeys with us as we work together to raise awareness and create a more inclusive community.  To help us gather your stories, please complete this Google Form by September 30, 2024.  By sharing with us, we can celebrate your journey and share with our PSD Community throughout the month of October.
