Welcome Back, Panthers!

Dear Purdy Families,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome everyone to the 2020-2021 school year! I am so delighted that you are part of our amazing learning community. All of us at Purdy have been diligently preparing for the return of our Panthers, and we are looking forward to another year of excellence. We are committed to thriving and surviving the challenges we face due to COVID-19. I welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in education, and I look forward to working with you and your children.

Our dedicated educators have been engaged in professional learning opportunities to enhance their remote teaching skills and our committed custodians have been meticulously cleaning and disinfecting our building to safely prepare for our students & staff. While we know this school year will be different than previous ones, it will not damper our dedication to provide quality education to our students. In addition, our much-appreciated PTA is gearing up to welcome families, provide volunteer opportunities, and offer other exciting events and programs. We are indeed a joyous and caring community with the common goals of nurturing responsible, caring students and promoting high-level learning.

Students are scheduled to begin the 2020-2021 school year on September 8th, through remote learning for the first few weeks due to health and safety reasons per the health department. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and as required by the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, students will start the school year in a remote platform. We look forward to returning  to school for in-person learning as soon as possible following health guidelines.

Communication between home and school is critical, especially during a time when circumstances can change overnight. I will provide information to parents via phone messenger, email, newsletters, Purdy’s Facebook page, and the school webpage, so please ensure your information is updated on Parent Portal. If you need help updating this information, you can email the Office Manager and/or secretary at bellamyb@psd401.net or laflammes@psd401.net.

This school year will be a new journey for all of us, but please know that we are committed to keeping all stakeholders healthy and safe while we navigate through these unchartered waters together. Regardless of what the educational landscape may look like, we have high expectations for each of our students and look forward to meeting them. We believe that all students, despite the challenges they may face, should have the opportunity to achieve academic success. Additionally, our administrative staff along with the talented teachers that lead our instruction are committed to providing every student with the highest quality of education possible. We plan to do so by:

  • Creating and fostering a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all students.
  • Providing equitable educational opportunities for all students.
  • Building the social and emotional competency in all students.
  • Providing guaranteed and viable curriculum for all students.
  • Creating and nurturing positive home-school connections.

As we prepare to embark on an unprecedented start to the school year, it is imperative that we partner together. Now more than ever we must show our students the importance of having a growth mindset, embracing diversity, respecting each other's differences, and advocating for social justice.

Without a doubt, there are challenges ahead of us. I can assure you that our staff has been working diligently to make the best of these challenging times. We look forward to fostering new relationships and building upon existing ones. We are committed to providing a nurturing positive, safe environment that inspires all students to reach their full potential.

On behalf of the staff at Purdy Elementary, I want to again welcome all of you and thank you for being a part of our school community.

Warmest Regards,

Ms. Kristi Brooks
